Oxygen planning guide for K2 Climbing Simulation

Treat the result as a planning margin, not a promise. Oxygen pressure changes with altitude, but your real survival window is also affected by route hesitation, camera mistakes, blizzards, teammate rescues, and the time spent switching items. If the calculator says you have just enough oxygen, you probably do not have enough oxygen for a messy public-server climb.

Below Death Zone

Save tanks and focus on route practice, stamina, and warmth. Carrying too much oxygen too early makes the climb slower without improving immediate safety.

Death Zone entry

Equip mask and tanks before crossing the threshold. Do not wait for health to drop, because panic item switching often causes slips.

Summit push

Carry a reserve tank beyond your estimated route time. The descent can consume more oxygen than expected if weather or rescue events interrupt you.

Practical oxygen rules

  • Plan oxygen for the return route, not only the climb up.
  • Never enter the Death Zone without confirming the Oxygen Mask is equipped.
  • Use weather windows; a blizzard converts oxygen time into waiting time.
  • Practice Camp 3 movement before spending tanks on a full summit attempt.
